Cataloguing and Curatorial Assistant
Overview
The primary job duties for the field research assistant 3, (AUPE; R‐1) will include documentation, cataloguing, and basic curation of a collection of born‐digital research‐creation artworks.
Specific activities include, but are not limited to:
- Following a defined Metadata Application Profile (MAP) based on Dublin Core to catalogue a collection of digital artworks
- Implementing the MAP in spreadsheets
- Using the MAP data to document and curate the artworks in other platforms such as Omeka and Zotero
- Creating screenshots of the artworks for documentation purposes
- Communicating with the artists regarding the documentation of their work
- Attending meetings with the research‐creation team
The successful candidate will work with, and directly report to, Dr. Jolene Armstrong at Athabasca University. Dr. Armstrong will provide adequate training for the documentation, cataloguing, and curation that will be required.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must be organized, responsible, attentive to deadlines, and clear and timely in communications.
- Computer skills are expected, including internet research, email, Word/Pages, Excel/Numbers, Google Drive, Google Sheets, and Google Docs
- Good writing and editing skills are required
- Attention to detail required
- Cataloguing experience is desirable
- Experience with the Dublin Core metadata schema is considered an asset
- Experience with Omeka is desirable
- Experience with Wikidata is considered an asset
This position is particularly well suited to a museum studies or library and information science student interested in digital documentation and curation. The student will gain training and experience documenting, cataloguing, and curating born‐digital artworks. Upon successful completion of the RAship, the student will be credited as an assistant on a publicly accessible digital documentation project.
The position is based in Edmonton, Alberta, but the work will be carried out remotely.
